As I've mentioned before, I'm one of the DC interns for the Organic Consumers Association . The best working perk of my life is that my awesome boss has taken me to the OCA's newest offshoot, Via Organica ("the Organic Way") in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico for the week. Our director, Ronnie Cummins, is truly the most inspiring figurehead of the organic revolution that I've met. He and an amazing team of activists here launched Via Organica about a year ago to bring organics to a new level in Mexico. Continuing the OCA's tradition for grassroots activism, VO has begun a number of projects to help San Miguel's compasenos reclaim their land and dedicate it to sustainable, organic farming. VO also has a fully operational farm on their land through which they partially supply the Via Organica store and cafe in downtown San Miguel. In addition, they hold workshops and classes to teach local compasenos about everything from affordable green buil...

So for those of you who don't know, Jae Steele , author of Get it Ripe (probably my favourite vegan cookbook as of yet), is in the process of publishing a new book on raw local  food! Not only does she amazingly advocate for organic vegan food, the new local angle will be a great recipe collection to help you deal with every season of the year! On the even more awesome note, I'm having the privilege of being one of her recipe testers. It's been ridiculously fun to be able to test all these recipes. I've made twelve so far, so here are a few pics from what I've recently been doing in the kitchen.  I have unfortunately  been very lazy to take pictures of all of this so there are a couple for now. I also didn't take the time to photograph things like d ressings and teas... I switched over to this site in the hopes of increasing my readership, but also because unforunately, only Vox members can post comments on that site. It was a pretty snazzy site though, but not fully suited to my needs! This is from March 4, 2009: Of all the hundreds of things I learned at Powershift ’09 this weekend, this is one of the comments that stuck with me the most: “98% of people who blog just want to be heard.” This seems like a really obvious statement and though I’m sure that the ‘98%’ was just pulled out of the air, it speaks volumes. ‘Why am I starting a blog?’ it made me wonder. What is it that I want from this? For me, it’s not just about being heard, it’s also about listening. I don’t just want to rant, I want to teach, educate, and above all, I want to share. Now more than ever we have access to so much information. We have so much to learn from each other and we can now communicate those thing...
